I am running on the Green Party ticket for Texas Lieutenant Governor. The best thing you can do to help my (our) campaign is to tell your friends and other people that you intend to vote for me, Kevin McCormick, for Lieutenant Governor. Then ask them to tell their friends and other people as well. I expect little or no coverage in the corporate media, so my campaign will depend on word of mouth publicity.
As Lieutenant Governor my comitment will be to serve the public interest. I define the public interest as:
- healthy people – do we have access to food, shelter, and healthy activities?
- healthy society – do we have opportunities and important public services?
- healthy environment – because we live in the environment.
The public interest is not simply a good idea — the public interest is a guiding principal that qualifies legislation and keeps special interests in check. The question is whether legislation helps to assure the good quality of life for Texans. I will strive to replace partisan division with a shared sense of civic duty, civic pride, and environmental responsibility. I will strive to increase the resources that are accessible to ordinary Texans and to reduce economic insecurity.
The Texas Lieutenant Governor is President of the Texas Senate and appoints members to the Senate committees and refers bills to the committeees. If I am selected by the voters, I will give these three items the highest priority in passing legislation:
- Invest in public transportation by expanding bus fleets in Texas cities to reduce traffic "congestion" and make alternatives available;
- Invest in the rural economy to establish family farm greenhouse food production cooperatives and to provide a solid foundation for hemp production and processing; and
- Reform the Election Code to adopt ranked-choice voting in all elections and establish a statewide single primary election for candidates of four political parties and also for independent candidates.
I will also work to reform the property tax system by changing the property appraisal method to "rent or lease value" from the current method of "comparable sales" and eliminate special interest and counter-productive property tax exemptions.
I believe all the above items promote health and are consistent with the public interest. I would add that we should strive to improve our health care system and work together to eliminate toxic chemicals and pollution from our food, water, and environment. We should improve public education by increasing the number of teachers, improving the curriculum, and making schools a better place for children. We should improve our economy by making our cities a better place to live, work, and have a family. We should encourage renewable energy and technological development in energy resources and uses. We should develop more ways to conserve and protect our water resources.
As Lieutenant Governor I will be receptive to efforts to improve Texas and create a better life for all Texans.
I am hoping to receive as many votes as possible. I believe the more votes I recieve the more likely it is the Texas state government will put people over the special interests. Please tell others that you plan to vote for me for Lieutenant Governor in 2026.
Thank you
